Our 2/3 or 4/5 person gîtes, rated 3*, each have independent access, one or two bedrooms with firm, comfortable bedding, a storage space, a lavender-scented bathroom (shower) (with private toilet), a lounge, a fully equipped kitchen/dining area (stove, oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee maker, etc.).
Each cottage has its own private terrace or garden area where you can set up sun loungers and an outdoor table in the shade. Charming gites and guest rooms in Haute Provence
The days are like fruits and our role is to taste them slowly or voraciously, to enjoy everything they contain, to make them our spiritual flesh and our soul (Jean Giono).
I'd like to welcome you to my bastide, in the peace and quiet of Provence's hinterland.
The Bastide du Claus was built by a squire of Louis XIV on the outskirts of the small flower-filled village of Cruis, which has been awarded the Village et Cité de caractère label. Its old stones welcome you under the benevolent shade of its hundred-year-old lime trees. Its 17th-century pond, fed by the property's own spring, is the perfect place to cool off.
You're in the heart of Haute Provence, at an altitude of 700 m at the foot of the Montagne de Lure, less than 10 km from the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route linking Rome to Spain, in the land of Jean Giono. The Luberon regional park and its medieval villages, the regional produce market in Forcalquier, the citadel of Sisteron and the Durance valley with its many sporting activities are all within a radius of less than 15 km. The Baronnies and Verdon regional parks and the Haute Provence geological nature reserve are also nearby.
You can set off from the house on foot or by bike for a walk or hike (or, in winter, snowshoe or ski), visit the picturesque and colourful sites in the surrounding area, read under the old lime trees or do... do anything at all! Farniente. Every evening, you can watch the stars in one of the purest skies in Europe, a favourite with astronomers.
La Bastide du Claus is also the ideal place to organise your yoga, Qi Gong or painting courses, choir rehearsals or corporate meetings.
So book your charming gîte or guest room now for this timeless interlude, with the soothing scents of thyme, lavender, rosemary and hyssop!
