La Bastide du Claus, built by a squire of Louis XIV, stands apart from the small, flower-filled village of Cruis (a designated Village and Town of Character) and has stood the test of time. Its ancient stones welcome you under the benevolent shade of its centuries-old linden trees. Its 17th-century basin, fed by the property's spring, offers a refreshing respite.
You are in the heart of Haute Provence, at an altitude of 700 m at the foot of the Lure mountain, less than 10 km from the Way of St. James linking Rome to Spain , in the country of Jean Giono. The gateway to the Luberon Regional Park and its medieval villages, the Forcalquier regional produce market, the Sisteron citadel, and the Durance Valley with its many sporting activities are all within a 15 km radius. The Baronnies Regional Park, the Verdon Regional Park, and the Haute Provence Geological Nature Reserve are also nearby.
You can set off on foot or by bike from the house for walks or hikes (and in winter, snowshoeing or skiing), visit the picturesque and colorful places in the surrounding area, read under the old linden trees, or simply do... nothing at all! Pure relaxation. Every evening, you can gaze at the stars in one of the clearest skies in Europe, prized by astronomers.
